During all the excitement of the build up to Call Of Duty Black Ops IIII and the millions of blog posts, I have written about it. One thing that I did not think to look into was split screen co-op. Which is actually crazy as I play a ton of COD with my son in split screen mode.
Anyway, Treyarch may have not been shouting it from the roof, but Call Of Duty Black Ops IIII split screen is in the game! I picked it up on the PlayStation 4 as I wanted the extra and early content. Now I do not have a PS4 Pro. I just have the bog standard PlayStation 4, actually, my PS4 is still the same one I got on launch day!
You can play Call Of Duty Black Ops IIII split screen on all the game modes. It worked great, just as good as it has done in years past on the general multiplayer mode. It makes Zombies even more fun and you can actually play Zombies in four players local co-op, but the biggest surprise was that you could play Blackout in split screen!
I have to give Treyarch major, major props for this because I have always thought that FPS games should have split screen and it is something I have wished Overwatch would have for years! Anyway, while it works and it is fun, you can clearly tell that Blackout mode is pushing the PS4 to its limits. The game is not unplayable by any means, but it is certainly a bit rougher and the framerate stutters a bit.
To be fair this may not be an issue on a PS4 Pro or an Xbox One X with their beefier hardware. I do actually have an Xbox One X and had I looked into this more I may have picked Black Ops IIII up for that.
